This is a guide for anyone who might be new to the FFXIV Nightlife Community! Here we try and share enough to get you started, the who, what, when, where and why of it all... and a good bit of the how, too.The Nightlife Community is a bunch of players, in the thousands, who go out every night to party, rave, vibe and have a good time. This is an amazing and ever growing part of the community driven content and social scene.EVERYONE is welcomed and we cannot wait to see you there, really. The entire point is to go out and make friends, meet new people and have fun.

How To Use This Guide

Click around, explore. If you wind up visiting each of the sections (buttons) at the top, you will have a pretty good idea what is going on and how to join. The guide is intended to be broken up heavily and focused on specific points. This lets us share links to pages with other players so they don't have to go digging around for the information, like dance emotes, for example.

Who actually does this, though... like, it's all RP, right? It is a mix of everyone: content players, full time community members, RP players and non-RP players alike. There is no requirement other than being able to play the game.

What do you actually do? What's the point?Ever wonder where the MMO is in this MMORPG? Like the actual large scale content? It's happening all around you, we make the content.Clubs, Casinos, VIP lounges, Wedding Parties, Birthday Parties, Outdoor Festivals, Charity Events...We dance, we goof, we interact, we have a good time. Raffles, giveaways, live music, Bard music, whatever we think of, we can make possible.

So... what should I expect heading to a club?Find some nice glam and head out. Show up, wave to the greeter if present, find the dance floor and an open spot or friend. There will be music via Twitch almost always, don't shy away from it, join the stream, buckle up, get ready for the ride.

There are some well known player expectations for behavior within the nightlife community. Some of these are borrowed, or are standards from RP venues.Regardless of the venues you are visiting, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with these practices as they may be expected, or even required!

  • Respect other players, this community is a really great place

  • Wait outside until start time

  • Dismiss minions before entering

  • Hide your weapon

  • Walk, do not run while inside

  • Silence emote messages

  • Do not spam abilities

  • Limit use of /yell or /shout

  • Most giveaways limited to (1) roll

  • Do not crowd DJs

  • Only dance on stage if allowed

  • Respect all venue policies/rules

More to come, work in progress!

World Travel

Navigating Eorzea can feel like a bit of a challenge at first, no fear, though! You can start from almost anywhere and make it to a venue within about 5 minutes! Once you have visited a few places, you will be an expert globe trotter!

Address Breakdown
Venues will almost always advertise their location in a format such as:
Data Center, World (Server), Housing District, Ward, Plot
Example: Crystal, Balmung, Lavender Beds, W20, P30The Data Center may be omitted as well: Bal-LB-W20-P30Lodestone list of all Data Centers and WorldsCommon Housing District Abbreviations:

  • Mist -> Mist

  • LB -> Lavender Beds

  • Gob -> Goblet

  • Sh/Shi/Shiro -> Shirogane

  • Ish/Emp -> Empyreum

World (Server) names will usually be abbreviated to the first 3-4 letters. (Balmung -> Bal, etc.)For open world parties, the Data Center, World, Zone and Location may be used.Example: Crystal, Zalera, Costa del Sol, X35, Y27

Data Center Travel
If you notice the World being advertised does not sound familiar, it may be part of another Data Center. You can visit other Data Centers within your region, meaning NA can visit NA, EU can visit EU, etc. but you cannot visit another Data Center between regions (you would need to create a new character within that region to visit those Data Centers and Worlds).
Lodestone list of all Data Centers and Worlds

To visit another Data Center, you must first logout from your Home World. If you forget to do this, simply select the "Return to Home World" option by right-clicking your character name at the Character Selection screen.

Once you have logged out of your Home World, right-click on your character name and select "Visit Another Data Center".

You are now ready to select another Data Center and World to visit! If the option is greyed out, you are either already in that Data Center, or the target world is having congestion and you will need to wait (or visit another World within that Data Center and World travel via the Aetheryte).

If you see this message when trying to visit OCE -> Materia: Go back to the Title Screen and click Data Centers. Click on the Materia Data Center (in the Oceanic region) and load in the Player Select screen. Once this is done (there may be no characters to load), return to the Title Screen, click Data Centers (again), then select your main Data Center you are traveling from. You can now use the Visit Another Data Center feature to visit the Materia Data Center.

You will get a notice about traveling between Data Centers. The travel time is usually less than 1 minute, but it can take longer during periods of server congestion. Click "Proceed" to begin the process, after which, you will be able to login to the target World and venture forth within that Data Center!

A few things to know about Data Center travel!

  • You can return home by right-clicking your character and selecting "Return to Home World"

  • You must travel to your home Data Center first before visiting a new one

  • Certain friend features and communications do not work while visiting another Data Center

  • While visiting another Data Center, your "FC" title will be "Traveler"

  • You may freely visit any of the Worlds within the Data Center via the Aetheryte World Visit feature

  • You can only visit Data Centers within your region

Visiting Another World
Travel to Limsa, Gridania or Ul'dah and click on the Aetheryte. You will have an option to "Visit Another World Server" (assuming you are not already on the Server/World the event is taking place).

The World Visit screen will appear, select the correct world and click OK. Note: If there is a long queue for the selected world, timer and queue position information will appear.

Once you arrive on the correct world, teleport to the correct city for the corresponding residential district. Once there, select the Aetheryte and click on "Residential District Aethernet".

Residential Districts
One very important thing to note is the Residential Districts can be gotten to on foot, or teleported to directly from the cities they are a part of. It is very wise to do the quests to unlock teleportation as running to the Housing Districts is very time consuming!

Once you click on the "Residential District Aethernet" you will have to option to "Go to a specified ward", you will need to know which ward the venue is in, as there are many identical wards to choose from.

Once you have teleported to the correct ward, you will need to locate the plot. Plots 1-30 are in the primary residential area, plots 31-60 will be in the subdivision. Open your map ("m" default) and look for the plot number of the venue. Once found, note the closest Aethernet Shard. The toggle to view the subdivision is in the upper right of the map.

Finally, there will be an Aethernet Shard at the entrance where you zoned in from, find it, click it, and teleport to the correct shard closest to the venue!

A lot of the fun at the clubs is of course dancing! FFXIV gives us a lot of dance emotes, some are easy starting quests, other cost MGP or real money, but all of them are worth it! Below is a table of the dance emotes and how to get them!Unsure what MGP is? Check out The Manderville Golden Saucer!

So, you want to go out tonight, but you aren't sure where to start. Maybe check with a friend or FC mate? Want to go it alone but have no idea what to look for or where to look? The community has you covered, as there are numerous promotions for various venues, some you may have seen such as town shouts, and others you may not know about, like the Party Finder "Other" tab...

Friends/FC members
Easy! Talk to the people you already know!
Shouts in town
I know it looks like a lot of spam, and sometimes it can be a real mess to look at, but a lot of venues will attract new players through shouting in town.
Party Finder
This is one of the most important ways venues can advertise in game! Open your Party Finder. In the top right, there is a button for "Other", click it! This is where most venues will put on in-game adds during their event!
Players Carrds
Big in the RP community, players may have venue information listed as part of their in-game profile... Check it out!

Discords
Almost every venue will have their own Discord and community to join. Within these Discords you may also find affiliate venues who advertise there as well. These Discord servers are a good place to check around for additional places to visit! There are also Discords that serve as a directory for a vast number of venues, one such Discord is the Club Hub: Club Hub Discord
Stream Announcements
You may follow a favorite DJ on Twitch and find them playing at a new venue you have not visited before... This is a great way to find new places to party, and you already know you are going to love the entertainment!

Eorzea is home to many different venues and opportunities for new experiences. Each venue is unique, offering different activities and services, staff roles and entertainment. As you venture the realm, you will find everything from cafés and casinos to bath houses and nightclubs...

  • Bar

  • Café

  • Inn

  • Tavern

  • Casino

  • Bath house

  • Nightclub

  • VIP Lounge

This guide primarily focuses on the nightclub scene, however some of the details may be applicable to other venue types as well. The nightclub scene is varied, and each club is unique. A venue may include “club” or “nightclub” in the name or may omit them completely.Almost all nightclubs (on Crystal) include live music/entertainment via DJ services. This DJ service is typically provided via a Twitch stream and the link is usually provided at the venue by staff. There is never a requirement to join the DJ stream, however a lot of the feel and vibe of the clubbing scene is based on the work of the DJs.

The community designs and produces the venue content, as such, there are various player-based roles and responsibilities. Search Info status tags help denote who the staff is and what they offer. Venues will hire various staff roles based on their operation. Staff roles can be anything from a bartender and greeter to a casino dealer or dancer.

Player Tags

The player tag meanings vary by data center. The exact usage may be different than listed here. Make sure to check with community members or venue staff before assuming!

On Crystal, the yellow "Looking to Meld Materia" is used as a general staff tag. These staff members may or may not participate in RP but do not offer additional services*. On other data centers, this may be the opposite behavior.

The Role-playing tag is used by venue patrons to show that they are "in character" or actively participating in RP. This tag is not required to role-play, however the RP tag is a good indicator to other players you are willing to.

On Crystal, the "Looking for Party" tag is for staff members who are offering additional services*. This tag is typical reserved for dancers, however, you may find any staff member using it. On other data centers, this tag may be used by non-RP staff members.

The Party Finder tag is automatically set for players with an active party finder. The Search Info status tags listed above, if used, will overwrite the party finder tag and it will not be visible.

*Discussion of "additional services" is outside the scope and intention of this guide. If you are unsure, please speak with members of the community in game.

Player Roles

These are some of the more popular player-based roles you can expect to see at a nightclub! Not every nightclub staffs every role and some may include specialty roles, based on their venue.

Bartender

Fancy a drink? How about some friendly banter or the latest gossip? If you enjoy the RP scene, for sure check out what the local taps have to offer! From comedic relief to a friendly ear, drink specials to special drink mixology (magic?), these bartenders have it all. And remember, tips are not required but always welcome, it is a great way to show your appreciation and that you enjoyed the experience!

Dancer/Courtesan

There to entertain and ensure you have a great visit, the dancer role can be found at almost every club venue. Whether dancing on stage or mingle among the crowd, what venues require of the dance staff may vary greatly from venue to venue. Do not shy away from a dancer's friendly advance, however, do know that some venues offer additional services from their dance staff. Make sure to learn the rules and limitations set for by each venue, and remember, have fun!

Greeter/Receptionist

Welcoming you into many venues, the first person you may see or talk to is the greeter/receptionist. Their role is to provide more than a pretty face or a happy smile, typically giving out important information such as venue rules, DJ streams or anything else you might need to know to make your visit more pleasant. The “front desk staff”, as they are known, may also be charged with working through additional services with dancers, VIP programs and the like.

Security/Bouncer

Typically the only ones seen displaying weapons within a venue, the security/bouncer role helps ensure everyone follows the community and venue rules. Security personnel may be charged with tasks such as sending patrons tells to silence their emotes, put away their weapons or dismiss their minions. In some situations, the security role is responsible for asking players to adjust their behavior or even leave the venue if the situation gets out of hand.

Q: Why do people even make nightclub venues?
A: The Nightlife scene is about the player-to-player social aspect of the game.
Q: Is it all just RP?
A: No, while "clubbing" came from the RP scene, less than 50% of the community base participates in actual role play
Q: Do people really ERP? Isn't this just "cyber sex"?
A: ERP is real, and yes, it is people using their characters in sexual context. It is relatively few players and never communicated publicly. It is against ToS to conduct this activity in the presence of others (where they can view the chat).
Q: How much money do venues make off running a club?
A: Venues may make gil in several ways, selling ERP services, running Casinos/gambling, or tips/proceeds from their bar. Few venues pull positive numbers and most pay out of their in game pockets to support the operations. Most venues run at a loss and it is a gil sink, not a profit center.
Q: Clubs just drive players to them to farm Twitch subs, right?
A: Unless the DJ themself runs the venue, clubs make no money and are not affiliated with Twitch at all.
Q: Are the DJs even real?
A: Some DJs use a playlist, many provide live mixing using software or hardware-based DJ controllers.
Q: Are the DJs making money from this?
A: RMT is not allowed and no payments from venues are made using real money. Venues pay DJs with gil. If DJs make money via their Twitch stream, it is from viewers who feel they deserve the bits/gifted subs/subs.
Q: Are players being paid for "working" at a venue?
A: "Staff" are paid with in-game currency, there is no real money exchanging hands.
Q: I see clubs giving away 20M, 50M, 100M, etc. Is this all RMT?
A: RMT/buying gil with real money is against the Square Enix ToS for FFXIV.
Q: Do I need to RP to try one of these "clubs"?
A: No, RP is not required. Most venues will be very welcoming and happy to have you there.
Q: Do I have to join a DJ stream?
A: No, you do not have to join the Twitch stream while at the venue.
Q: What are all these prizes and giveaways in shout chat and Party Finder?
A: Some venues choose to give away gil or mog station codes to attract/entertain guests.
Q: Is there anything illegal/against ToS that would get me in trouble for going?
A: If you abide by the same rules of conduct you would for dungeons and raids, there is no reason to be worried about the ToS. If you engage in behavior you feel may be against ToS, you should not continue as such.
Q: Where can I find out more?
A: https://ffxivnightlife.guide/
